Buckman, head of Chase Bank operations in West Africa from 1960 to 1969, this mask was field collected between 1960-1963 Provenance: This mask comes from the private collection of David L. Buckman, who was the head of Chase Bank operations in West Africa from 1960 to 1969. He was headquartered in Nigeria in the earliest part of the decade, and was taken to villages around the country where he purchased selected works of tribal art. Interestingly, many of Buckman’s pieces were purchased alongside David Rockefeller, who accompanied him on buying trips in Nigeria from 1960-1963. The advertisement pictured features an image of Buckman in Nigeria, and was run in TIME and LIFE Magazines in the 1960s.
